General Information
School Supplies
All students are expected to come prepared for class each day. Please make sure your child has all necessary school supplies as soon as possible. If you need assistance acquiring these items, please let me know.
Class Dojo
We will be using Class Dojo to track behavior and keep parents connected. Invitations to join will be sent home, or simply join our class at www.classdojo.com/PYBTFM6XN. Please make sure to sign up for your account as soon as possible so you can monitor your child's progress.
Friday Folders
Graded papers and weekly newsletters with important information and notices of upcoming events and assignments will be sent home each Friday. Parents, please review your child’s work. A checklist will be attached to the Friday Folder noting any papers that need to be corrected, signed and returned. Please sign the checklist and return the folders on Monday.
Homework Binders
Students will be given and are expected to maintain an assignment book, which will be kept in their 3-ring binder. The binder pockets will serve as their homework folder. Parents, please check and initial your child’s assignment book daily. You should expect homework assignments in Math on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, and in Spelling on Wednesday (as needed). Students will also have a "2-week" library book in their lexile range that they are expected to read within an assigned 2 week time period. A test grade will be taken over the book's Reading Counts quiz.
Reading Counts is a school-based program that assesses the students’ reading comprehension. Students are rewarded for earning certain levels of points. Students can earn these points by taking quizzes over stories from the Reading textbook, their 2-week book, as well as books of their choosing from the library and classroom. The 3rd grade goal is to earn at least 50 Reading Counts points for each grading period.
Spelling
New words for the next week will be listed in the Friday Newsletter. On Monday, the students will write their words in their assignment book. We will use the website www.spellingcity.com to practice the words and to take the pre-test on Wednesday. Students are encouraged to practice on this website at home. Any student who gets 100% on Wednesday’s pre-test will not have Spelling homework and will not have to take the test on Friday.
Lunch
Menus will be sent home every month. Please pay online or send money in an envelope with your child’s first and last name on it.
Specials
Art, P.E., and Music are on a 3-day rotating schedule. Please make sure your child wears tennis shoes or has them at school for P.E. days.
Dismissal
If your child will be going home in any way other than their normal routine, please make sure you let me know in the morning. If something comes up throughout the day, please call the office.
